Biruchiy Project

Byriuchyi – is the largest and longest-running international contemporary art residency in Ukraine which operates by the NGO “Contemporary Art Researchers Union” since 2006 on the territory of the Biryuchiy peninsula, Kherson region, Ukraine.

For 17 years of its existence more than 300 authors and 14 art groups from 19 countries took part in it: Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, Russia, Great Britain, the United States, the Republic of Belarus, Australia, Canada, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Kazakhstan.

BIRUCHIY represents a unique spirit of freedom and mutual openness that unites representatives of different artistic trends, generations and countries; the tradition of international partnership, which contributes to the integration of contemporary art of Ukraine into the global context; the practice of organizing educational programs: conducting master classes, presentations, lectures that contribute to the development of the cultural situation in the country.

Now, since February 24, 2022 – the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into the territory of Ukraine – the territory of the Biryuchiy peninsula and Azov Sea is under the occupation of the Russian military forces.

BIRUCHIY continues to operate as an art residency in spite of the wartime and realized the first art residency on the territory of Ukraine during the wartime in the Transcarpathia mountains (Western part of Ukraine).
